Porterville Shooting: One Died, Officer Injured, Active Shooter in Porterville, CA; SWAT Requested

A heavy law enforcement response is underway in Porterville after an officer was shot during an active incident on Thursday morning.

According to the Porterville Police Department, the shooting occurred in the area of Brian Lane near Pioneer Avenue and Newcomb Street. The injured officer is being transported to a hospital for treatment. Their condition has not yet been officially confirmed.

Authorities have requested SWAT assistance, including deployment of a BearCat armored vehicle, as officers continue efforts to contain the situation.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspect armed with a rifle and dressed in camouflage, with reports indicating that gunfire may still be ongoing in the area.

Residents are being urged to avoid the vicinity while law enforcement works to secure the scene.

As a precaution, the Porterville Unified School District placed Westfield, Sequoia, and Monache schools on lockdown. Officials stated there is no confirmed threat on campus and that all students and staff are safe.

The situation remains active, with additional updates expected as authorities continue their response.
